Perhaps the most famous story of St Dunstan is his encounter with the Devil. A mysterious woman with a hood was said to have entered Dunstan's forge one day, but Dunstan noticed her feet were hoofs! Dunstan grabbed the Devil and nailed a horseshoe to his foot, in a particular way as to cause the Devil great pain!  Dunstan only agreed to remove the shoe and release the Devil after he promised never to enter a place where a horseshoe is over the door. This is claimed as the origin of the lucky horseshoe.

Join us on May 19 to celebrate the patron saint of blacksmiths!
